pivoting

We are so lucky having Shelby working with us and she is so full of ideas and fun.

With the children who have come in so far we have noticed that they really just want to do that thing where they get comfortable – and this takes several different forms. Come in and do what you did last time but changing a few bits here and there, try every different thing and not settle on anything, or all want to try doing the same thing at once. To be expected. This happened when Everyone Out started at first too, which is so hard to remember now that we have regulars (some who have been coming for over 5 years) and they just model their comfort and their ease at knowing what they want to do – one of the kids comes to the holiday programme with homework, plans all worked out and sometimes equipment I guess his mother has helped him find. I know that eventually kids will come in and just help themselves, make their popcorn and settle in for the serious learning.

I am so not a sit down children we are all now learning this kind or person. I get so much from just sitting back and looking at other peoples enacting their ideas (not that I do not have enough already…) My favourite art book is Steal Like an Artist where he suggests you copy, copy, copy until you start with out noticing changing bits until you realise that you are now doing a different thing – this did work for the old masters who spent years on sky before progessing to other areas that the master would let them take over.

I think courses will have to come later, we are not there yet, and I am taking on board an idea of Shelby’s to have courses in the weekend so that parents could come with their kids. Neither of us are organised sport people yet we would have loved to do something in the weekends like that, and that one of our parents could be swept up into to. I had to wait until 16 before I was allowed to do night classes with my mother!!
